GEOLOGY-2003, PAPER- II ,SECTION B

                        Time Allowed: Three Hours              Maximum Marks: 200

Candidates should attempt Questions 1 and 5 which are compulsory, and any THREE of the remaining questions selecting at least ONE question from each Section.

SECTION B

5.       Attempt any Four, answering in about 150 words each:
(a)    Environmental impact of indiscrete disposal of radioactive waste
(b)   Deposits of petroleum in India
(c)    Methods of exploration in metallic ores
(d)   Incidence of floods and landslides in India
(e)   Estimation of ore reserves of Bauxite (Aluminium)

6.       Write an essay on the cosmic abundance of elements. Illustrate your answer by discussing the composition of the Earth and the meteorites.

7.       Write detailed notes on the following giving suitable examples:
(a)    Chemical bonding , coordination numbers, isomorphism and polymorphism in minerals
(b)   Pollution of surface water resources in India
(c)    Sampling techniques and estimation of reserves of ore
(d)   Indian deposits of aluminum and copper

8.       Write brief notes on:
(a)    Ore textures and structures
(b)   Indian deposits of uranium and thorium
(c)    Mineral beneficiation and ore-dressing
(d)   Structure and internal composition of Earth
