GEOLOGY-2003, PAPER- II ,SECTION A

                    Time Allowed: Three Hours              Maximum Marks: 200

Candidates should attempt Questions 1 and 5 which are compulsory, and any THREE of the remaining questions selecting at least ONE question from each Section.

SECTION A 

1.       In about 150 words each, answer any four of the following:
(a)    How is the projection diagrams used to represent crystal symmetry?
(b)   Essential and accessory minerals of Charnockite and Carbonatite
(c)    Characters of migmatites and granulites
(d)   Sedimentary structures and their significance
(e)   Retrograde metamorphism

2.       Describe the processes of magmatic crystallization and assimilation. Illustrate your answer with examples from ultra basic rocks and alkaline rocks.

3.       Write detailed notes on the following giving suitable example and diagrams:

                        (a)Pleochroism and extinction angles in the amphibole group of minerals
                        (b) Structural classification of silicates
                        (c)  Use of ACF and AKF diagrams in metamorphic petrology
                       (d)   Deccan volcanic province

4.       Name some common non-clastic sedimentary rocks .Write in detail about their occurrence, petrography, classification and depositional environment.
