FORESTRY – 2003 ,PAPER I, SECTION A

                         Time Allowed:   Three Hours              Maximum Marks: 200
Candidate should attempt Questions 1 and 5 which are compulsory, and any THREE of the remaining questions selecting at least ONE question from each Section.

SECTION A
1.       Answer any four of the following: (the answer should not exceed 150 words for each question).
(a)    What is the different propagation methods used for commercially exploited trees?
(b)   Briefly describe about the ecological status of “Shola grassland” vegetation.
(c)    Discuss briefly about the various measures for afforestation of cold desert and suitability of different tree species.
(d)   Describe about the importance of mangroves in India.
(e)   Write about the management of Sal or teak plantation.

2.       (a) Discuss briefly about the topographic faction inflecting vegetations.
                (b) Explain briefly the shelter wood coppice system.

3.       (a) Explain about the effects of thinning on physiological and menstruation aspects of tree growth.
              (b)  Define “Conversion”. Explain the reasons for conversion of silvicultural system.

4.       Describe the silviculture of the following species:
(a)    SHOREA ROBUSTA
(b)   TAMARINDUS INDICA
(c)    AZADIRACHTA INDICA
(d)   PINUS ROXBURGHI
